Qureshi

Speaking to reporters here on April 8, Saturday he alleged that  his brother was arrested unlawfully and then tortured as a result of which one of his kidneys has failed.

Narrating the developments, he said his brother was   taken into custody by the police on March 21 near the District Court Complex, for questioning and then kept him in illegal detention upto March 27,  torturing him during the period. Mohammad alleged that the cops even threatened to finish  him in an encounter. He said Qureshi had been to the court on March 21 for hearing in a case.

Mohammad said the police paid no heed though the court issued a search warrant for Qureshi when he did not appear for hearing that day.

He said he was intimated by the police on March 25 stating Ahmed would be produced before the court and then produced him before a judge. "The police took  him to hospital when his condition worsened but did not admit him. It was later due to our efforts that he was admitted to Wenlock Hospital," said Mohammad. He further added that the court has now directed that Qureshi be shifted to a private hospital.

Expressing regret that ministers of the district had chosen to remain silent on the issue  he  pleaded that the government should provide compensation to the family of Qureshi and also bear his medical expenses.

He said the condition of his brother was still critical.
