Mangaluru, March 09, 2020: A person who had arrived from Dubai and was admitted to the isolation ward at Wenlock Hospital on Sunday following suspicion that he might have contracted Coronavirus, has escaped from the hospital on Monday.
The person was found to be suffering from fever during the screening at the airport. He was immediately admitted to Wenlock Hospital.
However, this morning that person from Ullal has quietly escaped from the hospital. A complaint has been lodged in this regard in Mangaluru North Police station.
Different versions have emerged on the case since last night. According to some reports, he was arrived from Dubai on Sunday evening with symptoms linked to coronavirus and and was asked to visit the hospital to find out whether he would have to be quarantined for 14 days. But he skipped the hospital visit for tests.
According to the state health department, he was not at Wenlok Hospital, where he was asked to go. He allegedly left the airport against medical advice.
The police were informed about the passenger’s disappearance. A surveillance team is currently at his home with the police. "He will be brought back and admitted to hospital," said an official.
In a statement, Deputy Ccommissiner Sindhu B Rupesh said, "One of the overseas patients, who arrived from Dubai to Mangaluru International Airport, had fever. So we had made arrangements to treat him at Wenlock hospital but the patient did not cooperate with the medical officers during the treatment. No one should get confused about this. Now that person is being convinced to undergo medical test but he is still adamant.So far there is no case of coronavirus reported in the district of Dakshina Kannada. There is no need for the public to panic", she said.
