Mangaluru, Mar 28,2017: Former minister Krishna J Palemar has said that the project of upgrading Suratkal market has not been initiated even a year after the foundation laying by Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters here on March 28, Tuesday, Palemar also accused the ministers from the Congress of giving false promises on the issue and misleading the people.
Further he said the government has decided to shift the existing market place to another place which is a Gomala land, i.e. land earmarked for grazing cattle. The government has not bothered about this, he alleged and added that it has also not taken the pains to know if the upgradation works of the market in its existing place have commenced.
He said though a proposal for Rs 120 crore was submitted during his tenure, the same was rejected. As many as 87 shops in the existing market have been shifted to the Kendra Maidan at Suratkal, which is Gomala land and demanded that no activity must be permitted in a Gomala land.
