Suprabhata to be played loudly at Kukke Subrahmanya temple

Mangaluru: July 5, 2015: The administration of the Kukke Subrahmanya temple has bowed to the request of devotees and revoked its order to lower volume during suprabhata.

 

Puttur assistant commissioner and administrator of the temple Basavaraj said suprabhata will be played like it used to be.
On Friday, a protest was held under the banner of the Hindu Dharma Jagarana led by Kishore Shiradi. Addressing the protest, he said loud prayers are held by other religious institutions early in the morning. This decision has hurt the religious sentiments of the people, he said, adding that it was not right to tamper with the faith of devotees.
Panchayat member Rajesh, opposing the administration’s earlier move, demanded withdrawal of its decision or threatened protests.
"We suspect that idea was to stop suprabhata completely. Which temple does not play suprabhata Prayers in mosques begin at 4am," he said.
A protest march culminated before the temple and a memorandum was submitted to the executive officer demanding the restoration of the decibel level.
It may be recalled, Harikris-hna Punaroor, former president of the Karnataka Sahitya Parishath on the behalf of one section of devotees submitted a written petition that the volume of suprabhata played at the temple was too loud and was played for too long in the morning.
People at the mutt next door were also disturbed during meditation time.
The temple priests too were disturbed. Based on his complaint, it was thus decided to reduce to volume of suprabhata. The volume that us
