Subhashchandra Padiwal of Koti fame passed away

Moodbidiri Oct 19, 2016: Kallamundkuru Maldabettu Subashchandra Chowta who was famously known as Subhashchandra Padiwal passed away on Monday at the age of 70.


Subhaschandra ...Along with being an actor, Padiwal was a progressive agriculturist and active in the fields of education, literature and culture.


He had served at the Moodabidiri Krishi Vichara Vinimaya Kendra, the Kallamundkuru agricultural co-operative society, the Abbaga Dharaga Mahalingeshwara Temple administrative committee, the Abhinaya Kalavrinda, The Sarvodaya Yuvaka Mandala, The Moodabidire Tulu Koota, The Scouts and guides organization and the Moodabidiri Jain Milan, among others. He was also one among those who opposed Niddodi ultra mega power project.


Padiwal started working as an actor in theatre in his young age. He acted in more than 80 social and historic plays and also went on to become a theatre director. His roles in Samrat Ashoka, Angulimaala, Kali Kanteerava, Baiyya Mallige, Bairana Badk, Karimani Kattandi Kandani and Yer Malthina Thappu brought him fame.

He was widely recognized for his performance as Koti, one of the twin heroes of Tulu Naadu, in Koti Chennaya, the Tulu film released in 1974.

In another film “Yer Malthina Thappu” he was casted opposite the legendary star Kalpana. In Tulu film Sudda, he touched emotional chord of viewers with his performance in the role of a father. The film was also won the prize in the International Asian Film Festival.

In spite of belonging to a family of land lords, Subhashchandra Padiwal lived a simple life. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
