Students to have a chance to project their talents at Karavali Utsava

Mangaluru, Dec 5, 2014: A meeting chaired by district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation Chairman Narendra L. Nayak, who heads the culture committee of the Utsav, said the plan was to host cultural programme competitions for students from schools, Pre University colleges, degree colleges and professional institutions at Kadri Park and the Karavali Utsav grounds. Groups from schools and colleges will get a chance to exhibit their talent before the audience on the Kavarali Utsav grounds during the 12-day long festival beginning December 20.


ramanatha rai Nayak of Expert said chances of participation of students from Pre-University, engineering and medical colleges participating in competitions because of examinations.  Only four school teams had so far expressed the willingness to participate in the competition.  Nayak said instead of competitions, participating teams could be allowed to perform on stage.

Minister Rai said the organising committee could look for teams such as the one from Bantwal taluk which recently won a prize in a reality show of a private Hindi entertainment channel.  A new feature of this year’s Kavarali Utsav will be a 90-minute procession of various art forms of the region and also tableaux.  “We have planned to showcase our culture and heritage. It will be a great crowd puller,” said Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, who heads the committee organising the procession.

As part of the beach festival in Panambur, which will be held around the same time, there will be three-day food and cultural show by teams from Kerala between December 26 and 28. A Gujarati food festival will be held on December 24 and 25. DK DC A.B. Ibrahim said food stalls with north Karnataka dishes such as jowar roti and brinjal curry could also be featured. There would be a laser show by the Department of Information and Publicity at the beach.

There will be floodlit State-level Kabaddi matches at the Nehru Maidan. At the Panambur beach there will be matches of kabaddi and volleyball. The meeting resolved to call a national personality from the region to inaugurate the event. Many plans are being finalised for a utsava with a better interface.
