Students get a feel of farm activity; take part in Neji Naati at Konaje

Mangaluru, july 17, 2015 : In this age when the younger generation  is losing interest in farm related activities,a sincere attempt was recently made to encourage the students and make them have a first hand experience of the joy and sense of fulfilment which one gets while engaging in farm activities.

 

 

Students of the Kittel Memorial Pre-University College of Mangaluru had a feel of the pleasure of planting paddy saplings (Neji Naati) in the field of a farmer named Dhananjaya  Bangera  at Parande in  Konaje village.

The Neji Naati programme was earlier inaugurated by Prasad Rai Kallimar, former president of Mangalagangotri Lions Club. He said   our agricultural sector can survive only if the younger generation evinces interest in the field.

Dr CK Manjunath, Principal of Yenepoya Pre-University College regretted the fact that agricultural yield was declining with the passing of each day. He also urged the youth to strive to promote  the farm sector.

Vittal A, Principal of Kittel PU College, who also spoke, said the students of his institution who participated in the Neji Naati programme will also assist the farmer in harvesting the crops in the days to come.

 Vincent Samuel Karkada,  retired headmaster of UBMC Higher Primary School and Sudarshan Bhat former member of Konaje GP,  were the resource persons. A local resident  Ratnavathi Shettigar and Muttu Shetty, farmer and Konaje GP member demonstrated how farm works were done while singing the Padadanas.

Farmers Dayananda, Ramesh Poojary, UBMC Higher Primary School Headmistress Dorothy Ammanna and others were present.

Around 100 students along with their teachers participated in the Neji Naati programme.
