Student saved in time from Blue Whale game danger in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 01, 2017: For months now, the global internet has been abuzz with articles pertaining to the Blue Whale game. Although very innocent sounding, this deadly online challenge game has claimed the lives of over a hundred children worldwide and as shocking as it seems, it has now landed in Mangaluru.

 

A city student was saved from extreme steps by playing the Blue whale game has come to light on September 1. The parents of the said child had noticed blade marks on the boy’s hand, a prerequisite of the game, where the player has to cut himself / herself and send a picture of it to the game’s moderator. Some school and college children in the Mangaluru have already downloaded the controversial game onto their mobiles but only one child so far has been caught with scratches on his body.

The city child studies in a private high school in grade nine and comes from a fairly secure financial background. His parents had recently bought him an expensive mobile phone but had not restricted his usage on the gadget.

As he was lagging behind in his studies, the teachers had called in the parents and informed them. It was only because of this that the parents noticed anything untoward with their son. The child admitted he was addicted to the Blue Whale game and had self- harmed. He had also neglected his studies as a result of this game.

The parents took the child to a councellor and it was reported that he was recovering. But the City Police Commissioner, T R Suresh said there have been no reports of any incidents pertaining to the game. “Investigations will be conducted about it. It has been decided to hold awareness programmes in schools and colleges about it,” he said.

Bengaluru has secured sixth place among ten cities in the world which have searched for the Blue Whale challenge. Kolkata in West Bengal is in first place. Gauhati, Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi cities are leading.
