Strict implementation of PC-PNDT Act, Udupi DC

Udupi, Dec 19, 2016: Udupi Deputy commissioner T Venkatesh stressed the need for strict implementation of ’Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act’ (PC-PNDT) to prevent falling female to male sex ratio in the country. Expressing happiness at the healthy sex ratio in the district, Venkatesh said there was no complaint against the obstetricians or ultra sonologist in Udupi district with regards to implementing the act and urged all the stakeholders to ensure that the act is implemented in its letter and spirit.

T VenkateshHe was inaugurating a PC-PNDT awareness programme that was held under the joint aegis of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Manipal University, and district administration, zilla panchayat and district health and family welfare office, Udupi district at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal. A healthy sex ratio is also important in that the society does not suffer the consequences at a later date, he noted.

Dr Rajani, deputy director of PC-PNDT Cell, Bengaluru, clarified all the issues regarding the act and its implementations, during the question and answer session. She also administered the oath to the delegates to save the girl child and that they would not detect or reveal the fetal sex.
