Street vendors to intensify protests against Civic Tiger

Mangalore, July 6: The MCC had requested 15 days to provide alternative arrangements for evicted street vendors at the council meeting held on June 30. The street vendors’ associations had welcomed this decision. In spite of this agreement, the MCC has ordered its Civic Tiger squad to continue the eviction operation, complained committee convener Sunil Kumar Bajal, who was addressing reporters at a press conference held at Press Club on July 6, Wednesday.

Hurling accusations at the BJP, he said that the party is acting against the best interests of the poor, the Dalits, the street vendors, and the minorities. He said that a delegation comprising JD(S) Secretary M. G. Hegde, Shashiraj Shetty, Yadav Shetty, and former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty met Governor Bharadwaj in Bangalore and submitted a memorandum.

Speaking on the occasion, Vasanth Achary said that the action committee from Lady Goschen and State Bank areas will convene a meeting on July 7 Thursday at 3:00 p.m., after which it will form a human chain at State Bank and will shout slogans against the Civic Tiger. The protest meeting will be held in front of the DC’s office, after which the members will protest in front of the residence of Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister.
