Street vendors stage protest; describe eviction as inhuman

Mangalore, June 30, 2014:  Street vendors began a dharna in front of the Mangalore City Corporation office on June 30, Monday morning condemning the recent eviction of  petty shops and other street vendors in various parts of the city.

 The protestors described as inhuman the recent eviction of street vendors by MCC without any prior notice to the Town Vendors Committee that was formed  in accordance to the  Bill implemented by the Centre to safeguard the interests of the street vendors.

Sunil Kumar Bajal, Honorary President of Street Vendors’ Association who also spoke said that the administration which has failed to meet the demand to make alternate arrangements for the vendors, was now hitting at their bellies. This  is a violation of human rights, he said.

Mohammad Mustafa, President of the Association and  Santosh Kumar, General Secretary led the agitation.
