Street vendors’ convention held at NGO Hall

Mangalore, July 9: The CITU and the CPI (M) organized a street vendors’ convention at NGO Hall today. 

B. Madhava, the district secretary of CPI (M), inaugurated the event and said that the MCC purposely attacks street vendors because most of them belong to minority communities. Speaking in praise of CITU, he said that CITU respects human beings and does not make any discriminations based on grade, caste, class, or religion. Stating that schools compulsorily teach Bhagavad Gita to students, but not humanity, he said that the MCC is guilty of discriminating on the basis of religion and caste.

 

 

Attacking Janardhan Reddy, he said that Reddy has still not been arrested in spite of 35 warrants simply because the CM’s influence. 

Vasanth Achary, the district secretary of CITU, said that the convention is being organized to protest against the Civic Tiger. He said that, although the MCC is not responding to any protests, the CITU will not stop fighting for justice. 

Speaking about the poverty of street vendors, he said that they have been forced to sell their wives’ jewelry and take loans just to live, but the MCC does not understand their problems and launches Civic Tiger campaigns against them and confiscates their goods. The lives of street vendors have become so miserable that they are being forced to take sleeping pills to ease stress, he added. 

He warned the BJP-led state government and the MCC that no power can stop the poor from getting united and fighting for justice.
