Statues of Mookajji with grandchildren unveiled

Udupi, April 28, 2012: Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, unveiled the statues of Mookajji and her grandchildren, characters that appear in Mookajjiya Kanasugalu, a Kannada novel by Shivaram Karanth that won him the Jnanapith Award, at Karanth Smaraka Kala Bhavan in Kota in Udupi on April 27 Friday.

The statues were built by Purushottam Adve, the renowned artist.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Heggade said that the Karanth Smaraka Kala Bhavan does justice to the great writer, especially as it is located in his birth place.

Raghu Thingalaya, the president of Kotathattu GP, presided over the event. MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary presided. Prominent people such as Sunitha Rajaram of the ZP; Raghavendra Kanchan, the member of the Udupi TP; and Ananda C. Kundar, the president of Kota Shivaram Karanth Prathishtana, were also present.
