Mangaluru, Jan 23, 2015: A new Golden Chariot is in the making for Kateel Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple. The chariot which will be dedicated on February 8 is likely to be the tallest golden chariot in the state.
The chariot is being made using 11 kg gold and 175 kg silver and will be 14 feet tall. The tender for the chariot making is entrusted to Swarna Jewellers of Udupi. Ramdas Nayak of Swarna Jewellery says the quality of the gold used for the chariot has been tested at NIT-K and 24 carat gold is being used. He also stated that the quality of gold was tested in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner.
The golden chariot has carvings of Ashta Lakshmis, Navadurgis , lion, elephant etc, As many as 20 workers are engaged in the chariot making works since the past six months.
