The Samiti had held a big protest meeting against the government’s decision to set up the toll plaza on State Highway (SH) Number 1 in Belman on October 7, which had received wide-spread support. Belman is a junction, where roads coming from Shirva, Karkala-Nitte, Mundkur and Padubidri meet.

Hegde said that even after public opposition, the government had given its nod for the toll plaza. Hence, the Samiti had given a bandh call. A mega protest meeting would be held at Belman Bus Stand on December 20.

The owners of business establishments had agreed to voluntarily shut down their operations and cooperate on that day, he said.
