Udupi, Jan 12, 2016 : BJP National Vice President, Shivamogga MP and former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for unnecessarily accusing the Union Government of  not releasing funds towards drought relief works.

 B S Yeddyurappa

Speaking to reporters here on January 12, Tuesday, Yeddyurappa said  the Union Government has released a drought relief fund of Rs 1,540 crores within 48 hours after a request  was made in this regard to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by  BJP leaders during his recent visit to the state.

He also claimed that the Union Government has  given preference to a Congress ruled state like Karnataka even when there was drought situation in nine states.

Recalling his chief ministership, Yeddyurappa said though Congress President Sonia Gandhi     had made an aerial inspection of the drought situation,  neither the   state government made any request for funds nor Sonia gave any assurance. Instead the BJP leaders took to streets to raise funds, he added.

Alleging that there was a total breakdown of law and order machinery in the state, Yeddyurappa said no  measure has been taken to check the crime rate despite several cases of murders including the recent murder of an elderly couple in Belthangady.

Yeddyurappa also alleged that the Congress government in the state which was fearing a defeat in the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections, was trying to postpone the same.

Accusing the state government of trying to dissolve the institution of Lokayukta, he said the ’false allegations’ made against the Upa Lokayukta would refrain many   from taking up the post.

Asked if he would be made the state BJP Chief, Yeddyurappa said it was a matter to be decided by the High Command.

Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP, Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, Udupi District BJP President and others were present.
