St. Anne’s Friary in Bejai turns 75 years old

Mangalore, Oct 28, 2011: The Capuchin friars of St. Anne’s Friary in Bejai organized a get-together to celebrate the platinum jubilee of the friary on the premises of the friary on Oct 27 Thursday. 


Fr. Vincent G. Furtado, the provincial of the Capuchins in Karnataka, was present on this occasion. A Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Vincent G. Furtado, with several other priests concelebrating, marked the beginning of the event. Fr. Roshan Menezes delivered homily.

A cultural presentation by various SFO regions, under the leadership of Walter Mascarenhas, formed the highlight of the event. The MC was Harold D’Souza. 


Around 600 SFO members participated in this event. 


About SFO 


St. Francis of Assisi founded the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO) in the year 1221. In Mangalore, the SFO was first established in Bejai in 1927. In 1950, Fr. Cyril Andrade organized all the fraternities. Currently, there are 11 Capuchin regions in Karnataka with 110 active fraternities. Mangalore alone has 7 regions with 70 fraternities. 


St. Anne’s Friary turned 75 years recently, and the platinum jubilee year will be celebrated grandly. Recently, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi was celebrated grandly. 


Fr. Peter Cyprian D’Souza Capuchin is the superior of the friary and the definitor in charge of SFO for Karnataka.
