St. Aloysius College holds first graduation day ceremony

Mangalore, May 28: St. Aloysius College (autonomous) held its first graduation ceremony in the Loyola Hall of St. Aloysius Pre University College on May 28, Saturday. M. Veerappa Moily, the union minister for law and justice, was the chief guest of the event.

The graduation ceremony was inaugurated by Fr. Francis Serrao, the provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province.

Medal, certificates, and cash awards were conferred on the UG and PG rank holders. The graduates also received wrist watches sponsored by Titan.

In his graduation day address, Moily urged all the graduates to reach out to the poor and the underprivileged in society and create positive changes. Lauding St. Aloysius College for meeting its social responsibilities with a special focus on the arts and the science, which are not at all lucrative, he said that the college has excelled in all areas related to autonomy such as curriculum designing, innovations, research, adopting choice courses, and so on.

Taking special notice of the fact that the girls had performed far better than the boys, he said that the girls ought to be proud of this fact and so should the St. Aloysius Institution, which has been a men’s college for such a long time.

Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St. Aloysius Institutions, graced the occasion and administered the oath to all the graduating students.

Fr. Swebert D’Silva, the principal of St. Aloysius College, delivered the welcome address. Dr. A. M. Narahari, the registrar and convener of the graduation day ceremony, was also present, along with members of the college governing council, staff, and students.

Certificates were awarded to around 650 students.
