Squads to check trafficking of cattle : Police Chief

Mangaluru, June 29, 2019: City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil stated that special squads have been formed to check the increasing incidents of cattle trafficking.

He said, at the weekly phone-in-programme on June 28, Friday that cattle trafficking is a serious  offence and police has  stepped up efforts to prevent miscreants from lifting cattle from homes.  He added, cattle trafficking takes place after dusk, barricades have been set up and patrolling has been intensified at points where cattle are trafficked to the neighbouring state Kerala.

Commissioner Patil also said the police have intensified the surveillance on previous offenders caught trafficking cattle and visits are conducted randomly to the houses of those accused of lifting cattle. Special squads will trace and arrest the absconding cattle offenders like Kutta Imran, Basheer and Ansar, he said.

He said he will write to SP and Kasargod SP to step up their patrolling against cattle lifters.

Parking  :  A majority of over 26 calls from residents highlighted how haphazard parking of vehicles on roads is causing inconveniences.

A lady complained that fish vendors have encroached upon the pavement in Kavoor and are causing inconvenience to pedestrians.

Another resident complained that vehicles are parked on both sides of the stretch from Mannagudda to Car Street.

The police commissioner directed the traffic police to prevent double parking and also seize buses being driven rashly or parked on the middle of the road. “File cases also on the owner of buses,” he stressed.

Police Chief Patil directed the police officials to write a letter to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on potholes on the service road and the absence of drainages to drain the rainwater.

COTPA implementation : He clarified that they are strictly implementing Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

He was responding after his attention was drawn on how hundreds of students from Karavali College of Engineering in Neerumarga are making a beeline to a shop to buy and smoke cigarettes. “If need be, we will write to authorities on getting the shop shifted from the vicinity of college,” Patil added.
