Mangaluru, Jan 18, 2018: A Spice Jet flight with 180 passengers on board which was scheduled to depart to Dubai from the Mangaluru International Airport on January 17 was delayed by almost five hours after its Turkish lady pilot was found to be heavily intoxicated.
It is said the flight was to depart at 12.40 am on Wednesday. The passengers had boarded the aircraft after all procedures. However, when the pilot was subject to medical examination two hours ahead of the flight it was found that she was heavily drunk. The flight later took off at 6 am with a substitute pilot.
It is learnt the Turkish lady pilot would remain grounded until investigation is complete. The Spice Jet aircraft which flies to Dubai is leased from Corendon Airlines in Turkey and all its crew and pilots are from Turkey itself. The accused lady pilot was staying in Mangaluru.
