Moodbidri, Dec 28, 2015: Veteran artist Padma Shree Dr Manu Parekh from New Delhi was conferred the prestigious Varna Virasat Award during the grand valedictory of the four day national cultural extravaganza Alva’s Virasat here on December 27, Sunday. The ceremony was inaugurated by Deviprasad Shetty, businessman from Moodbidri and Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, President of Bunts Association, Mumbai.
Dr Parekh was conferred the Award which carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a shawl in the presence of a host of dignitaries including Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, Madhavi Parekh, the better half of Manu Parekh, Amarnath Shetty, former minister, Dr S Ramananda Shetty of Nitte University and Dr B Yashovarmna, Secretary of SDM Institutions of Ujire.
The musical programme organised on the final day enthralled the gathering. Singer Karthik from Chennai rendered several Bollywood and Tamil hits, while Vijay Prakash sang a Tulu song and several popular Kannada songs. The singers were assisted by Keith Peter on base guitar, Vijay Joseph on lead guitar, Arun Kumar on drums, Pradumya and Navaneet Sunder on Tabla, Giridhar Udupa on Ghatam and Harsha on keyboard.
