Special workshop for physical and sports trainers

Mangaluru, Apr 18, 2018 : Trainers of Marena Sports Complexes, physical education faculty from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and others who are into sports had a unique experience at Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC), Manipal campus, recently.

At the one-day workshop, they were exposed to demonstrations on the human musculoskeletal system on cadavers by the faculty of Anatomy department of MMMC.

Muscles and sports  :  It was an opportunity for them to see different muscles used in sporting activities. For most of them, the experiential learning was for the first time and they found it very useful.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education who lauded the Department of Anatomy, MMMC for coming up with this initiative and also stressed on how important the knowledge of muscles, bones and joints was for these professionals.

The workshop had two sessions. In the first, muscles, bones and joints of the upper and lower limbs were demonstrated using dissected human cadavers and models. Live demonstrations of all the movements of different joints were also conducted. The trunk, head and neck were taken up in the second session.

Dr K Ramnarayan, vice president, Faculty development, MAHE and chairperson, Manipal University, Jaipur gave away the certificates to the participants at the valedictory. Dean of MMMC, Dr Ullas Kamath, Associate Deans of MMMC Dr Annamma Kurien and Dr Arun Prakash were present during the occasion.
