Ms. James said that the officers and personnel on beats will be directed to tackle illegal activities in the jurisdiction of the respective police stations. Stern action would be taken against any police staff, who was negligent in carrying out his duties.

On complaints from Byndoor, Shankarnarayana and Gangolli police station limits of illegal removal of sand during the phone-in programme, Ms. James said that even if the police raided the sand removal unit, they could not book a case. They would have to inform the Department of Mines and Geology about it.

After the Department inspected it, based on their report, a case would be registered. Even if the sand laden trucks were stopped, a nod from the Mines and Geology Department was needed to book the case. Yet the police would take all steps to prevent illegal removal of sand, she said.
