Mangalore, July 8 2011 : Asha Jyothi extended warm welcome to the four achievers of the Special Olympics, which was held at Athens, Greece when they arrived at KSRTC bus stand on July 8 Friday.

The four achievers are Pramila Pinto, an inmate of Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre in Pamboor, who won 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal in the roller skating events; Dhanya S. Rao, a student of Chethana Special School, who won 2 gold medals in the roller skating events; Royston Pinto, a student of St Agnes Special School who won 1 gold medal in the roller skating event, and Anil Mendonca of St. Agnes Special School who won 1 bronze medal in the volleyball event.

The achievers were welcomed warmly and taken in an open vehicle from KSRTC to PVS.

Shailaja Bhat, the president of ZP, said on the occasion that the special kids of DK and Udupi have achieved a lot in the Special Olympics and have set an excellent example for other special kids. She said that DK will specially honor and reward these children.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Praveen Anchan said that the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will honor these students by giving each of them Rs. 50,000. The achievers are to be grandly felicitated on July 18 Monday, he added.

Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Suresh Ballal, the parents, and the coaches of these achievers were also present.

The management of Chethana Special School later honored these student achievers.

Earlier, the students were honored at a felicitation programme organized by the management of St. Agnes Special School. Fr. Anthony Serrao, Joint Secretary Sr. Olivia, ex-principal Sr. Maria Jyothi, Principal Sr. Shruthi, Sr. Carmelita, and the parents of the winners were also present.

Anil Mendonca, one of the achievers, said that his success is because of the grace of God and the constant support and encouragement he received at the school. Speaking on the occasion, Royston Pinto said that winning the medal in Athens was one of the most memorable moments of his life.
