Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Oct 10, 2014: It has been two years since 17 year old Sowjanya, a student of SDM College, Ujire was found  dead at Pangala near Dharmasthala on October 9, 2012, just a day after she went missing mysteriously. But the most disappointing factor is that the CBI which has taken up investigation into this rape and murder case has so far not been able to make any progress in the investigation.

Sowjanya case ...The government which had initially handed over the case to the CID had later following persistent pressure from various like-minded organisations which had launched a Justice for Sowjanya movement, had entrusted the case to the CBI.

So far the only person arrested in the case is  Santosh Rao who is said to be mentally unstable. In fact he was caught hold of by some locals while he was lurking suspiciously in the Gommata Hill area within a few days of the murder. The CID which was initially probing the case have filed a charge sheet against Santosh in January last year.

Meanwhile, a candle light vigil was staged in the city on October 9, Thursday by the DYFI demanding speedy investigation into the case.
