Southern Railways appeals to public to prevent trees falling on tracks

Mangaluru, July 06, 2015: A public release from Southern Railways appealed to public responsible for areas by the side of railway lines, to avoid felling trees on to railway tracks as it leads to serious mishaps. Citing 39 incidents  reported since April 2015,  within the Palakkad division.

Southern Railw..To prevent trees by the sides of rail tracks falling onto the track, Railways  issued notice to the concerned individuals to cut trees that are in danger of falling due to wind and rains. Shoranur-Nilambur and Shoranur-Kozhikode sections have been the most affected. There were 14 incidents of trees falling on tracks and disrupting train services from both the sections in the month of June alone. While Shoranur-Nilambur section recorded six incidents of trees falling on track, Shoranur-Kozhikode section registered eight such incidents. Delay of train traffic in a heavily occupied section such as Shoranur-Kozhikode, will result in disruption of entire train services in Shoranur-Mangaluru section. Shoranur - Kozhikode section, being an electrified section, is likely to consume more time to remove trees. Railway authorities have issued warning to public in this regard. As per the Railway Act, any action (knowingly or unknowingly) that cause disruption in train movement is punishable and cost of damage can be recovered from those responsible.

Railways control rooms at divisions monitor the situation round the clock and arrange prompt relief measures on war footing, whenever trees fall on track.
