Mangaluru, Mar 22, 2017: The Somalian wife and three children of Rasheed Shafi ( 33), a youth from Mangaluru who is imprisoned in Uganda after he was blamed for the loss of 10,000 dollars of Gujarat based company at Kampala, have arrived in the city with the benevolent help of MFriends and several well wishers.
Shafi who worked as a marketing manager of the company was robbed of the company amount in July last year. Though a complaint was lodged the company blamed Shafi for the loss and he was eventually imprisoned after he could not reimburse the huge amount. His Ugandan wife and three kids who were in great distress since then managed to eke out a living with the help of a local mosque.
Shahul Hameed, Trustee of MFriends narrated the plight of Shafi and his family comprising three kids aged five, three and one. He said a case was filed against Shafi on October 3 following which he was jailed.
Rasheed Vittla, Secretary of MFriends said arrangements were made for the return of the wife and kids of Shafi in order to ensure their safety. He also stated that Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was also informed about their plight through a tweet and efforts to get Shafi released with the help of the Kannada Sangha there were futile due to the good influence enjoyed by Shafi’s employer.
G Mohammad Shafi, father of Rasheed Shafi alleged that his son’s passport has been in the custody of his employer and that his stay in Uganda would be termed illegal once the work permit expires in November.
Mihim Ibrahim Dahir, wife of Rasheed Shafi and children Shafi Ibrahim, Shafi Sultana and Shafi Sapna, MFriends President Mohammad Haneef Goltamajalu and others were present.
