Solar roof top power, DK mega credit camp Feb 17

Mangaluru, Feb 16, 2016 ; Briefing media, DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim said that with a serious view to promote solar roof tops in Dakshina Kannada district, a mega solar credit camp for financing solar roof tops will be held at Town Hall in Mangaluru on February 17.


Solar roof top power The camp is being initiated by the district administration to promote renewable sources of energy. The credit camp is the first in the series of initiatives planned to encourage citizens to switch renewable sources of energy with a special focus on grid connected solar roof top systems.

The camp will bring together all financing banks in Mangaluru taluk, Mescom and MNRE /MESCOM approved agencies dealing in supply/installations of solar roof top systems. The banks will be providing provisional sanction letters on the spot to eligible customers who visit the credit camp.

The prospective customers seeking to know more about the functioning of solar roof top system can attend the presentation being planned by the Mescom inside the Town Hall. A help desk is also being planned by the Mescom to guide citizens on the procedure to be followed for obtaining feasibility certificate, which is a pre-requisite for availing bank loans.

NABARD AGM Prasad said bankers have earmarked Rs 1 crore each in 500 branches in the district for promoting roof top solar systems. In fact, 38 individuals have already submitted proposals to the branches, of which 29 have been sanctioned. The banks are promoting solar panels ranging from 1 KW to 10 KW for domestic consumption. The interest for the loan is 9.5 per cent.

The DK DC  said that a solar power plant of 25 KW capacity, able to produce 100 units of electricity per day, has been installed on the rooftop of DC office building in Mangaluru at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. The unit has been set up with Mescom power purchase agreement and is sponsored by Dakshina Kannada MP LAD fund.

The plant was installed on January 26 and has been operating on an experimental basis from January 27. The plant has generated 1,757 unit of electricity from January 27 till date. The electricity bill of the DC’s office used to be Rs 65,000 to Rs 70,000 per month before the installation of the solar power plant.
