Social activist Celine Aranha no more, funeral today

Mangaluru, Feb 17, 2019: Celine Aranha, social worker, teacher and activist, who had played an important role in the formation and growth of the Dakshina Kannada Parisarasaktha Okkoota, passed away on Friday. She was 87-year-old.

Among Celine Aranha’s many initiatives, her contribution in building human capacities is well remembered and appreciated. She was actively involved in the ‘Save Dakshina Kannada Campaign’, Dakshina Kannada Parisarasaktha Okkoota, Mangalore Nagara Parisarasaktha Okkoota and NGO Task Force and had created awareness in citizens about the implications of ADB-funding.

According to environmentalist and activists, Celine was considered a friend, philosopher and guide for the people who worked and associated with and sought guidance from her.

“She, at all times, worked and campaigned for gender equality, women empowerment, Adivasi rights and people’s rights over natural resources. She was a very special person who never went after publicity or promoting herself. Celine was an icon for knowledge, dedication in our society through her life and deeds. Her commitment to the cause is laudable,” he added.

Her funeral will be held at St.sabastian’s church, Bendur, at 4 pm. to day Feb 17, Sunday after last respects funeral mass will be celebrated at 5 pm. Her mortal body as per her wish will be donated for medical use at Fr.Muller’s hospital.
