Smuggled gold worth Rs 27.56 lakh seized by customs officials at MIA

Mangaluru, Jan 17, 2019: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport have seized  gold worth Rs 27.56 lakh which was smuggled into the country in flights which arrived from Dubai.

In the first case gold worth Rs 9.8 lakh hidden  in  paste form in the underwear of a passenger who arrived from Dubai was  seized. The arrested person is Aboobakker Mahmud (46) from Kasargod. Sources said chemicals were used to turn the gold into a paste.

In another  case, a bag left behind in a Spice Jet Aircraft which arrived from Dubai had gold in the same paste form concealed in it. The gold weighed 549.130 grams.
