Speaking to reporters here on January 23, Saturday, Poojary while welcoming PM Narendra Modi’s statement on the issue, described the death of Vemula as a murder of our culture, humanity and soul of India.

Poojary also stated that Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya who has been booked in this case  and HRD Minister Smriti Irani must quit. "Both of them need to be sacked for resorting to cheap politics, he added.

Describing the case as a conspiracy against the Dalit community,   Poojary said it even revealed that untouchability still prevailed in the nation and that it has even entered educational institutions.
Poojary also wanted to know why the state government was silent over the recent suicide of a Kodagu Junior College Principal in Mangaluru.

Referring to the Yettinahole project, Poojary said the presence of four ministers from the district was serving no purpose.
