Smart City Project: Mangaluru to try to make it to first list

Mangaluru, Sep 18,2015 : A meeting held under the presidentship of DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai  at the DC office on September 18, Friday   discussed ways and means to  see to it that Mangaluru finds a berth in the first list of 20 Smart Cities. It may be recalled here Mangaluru has already been chosen as one among the six cities from Karnataka recommended by the state government for the Centre’s Smart City Mission.

The meeting deliberated on the measures that need to be taken to ensure that Mangaluru finds a place in the first list of the Project. Participants also held discussions with regard to submitting a proposal in this regard.


District in-charge Minister suggested the formation of a Task Force to  work in this direction. Dharmaraj, City Corporation Consultant spoke about the technical details of the Smart City Project. JR Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru South said Mangaluru’s plus points need to be highlighted in the proposal. He said Mangaluru would attract more investments if brought under the Project.

Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim issued instructions to the  authorities to prepare a project report by October end.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Mayor, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, and several  MCC officials as well as a consultancy team of the Union Government were present during the meeting.
