Six undertrails taken into custody in Udupi

Udupi, Nov 30, 2016: Reports confirm that The police took six undertrials into custody who were involved in an assault case at Heeriyadka jail in Anjaru, to initiate inquiry.

	jailAdditional SP Vishnuvardhan told media that the undertrails are under judicial custody and hence the police have to take them to custody and initiate the inquiry.

The six undertrials are said to have assaulted two other undertrials who were lodged in the Heeriyadka Anjaru Jail on the charges of attempting to steal the calf and assaulting the police on duty.  According to police sources, two undertrials who had been assaulted are Moideen from Banglegudde in Karkala and Irshad from Kundapur who were lodged in the barrack number one during the time of breakfast.

Irshad and Moideen have named Pratheek, Sukumar, Manjesh, Sudeep Shetty, Akhilesh Shetty and Prashanth Mogaveera.  All these undertrials are arrested by the police in connection with the murder of BJP activist Praveen Poojary in Kenjur on August 17.

Following the incident, the police have shifted 26 inmates to the jails in Karwar, Mangaluru, Chitradurga and Chikkamagaluru. The decision to shift them was taken following a request from the jailer to avoid probable break down in the law and order mechanism within the jail. An FIR has been registered against the six accused under the charges of IPC Sections 504, 506, 341 and 323 read with Section 34 in Heeriyadka  police station.
