Siddakatte villagers threaten to boycott GP Polls

Mangalore Today News Network

Bantwal, May 28, 2015 : The sorry state of the Siddakatte-Karpe Road has forced residents of the area to think about boycotting the Gram Panchayat elections scheduled on May 29. A banner was spotted in the area on May 27, Wednesday evening stating that the villagers will boycott the elections if the road was not asphalted well before the elections.

Interestingly, the banner  has tried to remind the elected representatives that the  road was asphalted as many as 25 years ago and naturally this was the ‘silver jubilee’ year since it was last asphalted.  The banner has also blamed political parties of being only interested in garnering votes but not the welfare of the people.

The Siddakatte-Karpe Road measuring six kms  was last asphalted in 1990 and is presently in a pathetic state. Repeated appeals and numerous protests to repair the road  have so far fallen on deaf ears. This road is also a link to the Madame-Kalkuri road which in turn connects the Bantwal-Moodbidri road.
