Mangalore, Dec 31: Shri Shirooru Seer Shri Lakshmivaratheertha was felicitated in the Town Hall, Mangalore on Dec 31, Thursday. Shirur Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji will be ascending the Paryaya throne on January 18, 2010.

The felicitation ceremony was held following a grand procession from Sharavu Shri Mahaganapathi Temple at 9:30 a.m. The procession was multihued with tableau, bhajans presented by devotees, yakshagana artists, and dolls.


Mayor M Shankar Bhat presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Shri Lakshmivaratheertha Swamiji has been a paradigm of great solace and succor to the people and the society at large. His commitment and sacrifice is exemplary. He hailed Shirur Swamiji as the Swamiji of the masses, who has become a voice of the suffering people, a guide for the Hindus and a leader in social service. He wished that the swamiji will continue with his social reforms and be a model for others.

Delivering the benedictory speech on the occasion, Swamiji thanked the organizers of the program. He said that he had concluded visits to various religious places before coming to Mangalore. In his address, the Swamiji said that the motto of his Paryaya term will be to provide a soulful darshan of the Lord and serve the visiting devotees.


On the development of the facilities in the temple he said that CC TVs have been fixed in the Temple complex to ensure large number of people to watch the pooja as it is very difficult for all to see the pooja through the window (Kanakana kindi). He said that the Udupi Mutt is known for its Annasantharpana facility for all the devotees who visit the temple and he wished to continue the same without any disruption. Speaking on the development in Udupi, Swamiji said that the Carstreet must be cleared from all the barriers that may interrupt in the free movement people and the God’s chariot.


Dr D Veerendra Heggade’s participation as the honorary president on the occasion was an additional credit to the occasion. Sridhar Holla, rendered the invocation. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, welcomed the guests and gathering.


Later the devotees were permitted to offer flowers and garlands to the Swamiji.
