Shreemathi Shetty murder case : Couple from Attavar arrested

Mangaluru, May 15, 2019: City Police Commissioner Sandip Patil who spoke to reporters at his office here on May 15, Wednesday has informed that  a couple from Attavar has been arrested in connection with the sensational murder case of Shreemathi Shetty (35), a resident of Amar Alva Road in Mangaluru.  It may be recalled here that the mutilated body parts of Shreemathi were found hidden in a gunny bag near the Kadri Park on May 12, Sunday.

Those arrested  are Jonas Samson (36) and his wife Victoria Mathias (46) a resident of Attavara, currently living at Sooterpet, Valencia. As per reports, Jonas had borrowed Rs 1 lac from Shreemathi Shetty and had repaid a part of the borrowing. Shreemathi had been pestering for the balance amount of Rs 60.000 for some time. Jonas failed to repay the balance. On May 11, Shreemathi went to Jonas’ house to collect the amount when she was murdered with lethal weapons.

The Commissioner said a financial dispute was the reason for the murder. He said  the accused Jonas had attempted suicide while the police  had been to arrest him. He has been provided treatment at a private hospital, the Commissioner informed. There is  suspicion that his wife had abetted in the murder. A two-wheeler has also been seized from the couple, Patil informed.

The Commissioner also stated that the missing limbs of Shreemathi Shetty were found near Kadri Park. Following investigation, the police recovered a two-wheeler, a golden chain and eight finger rings worn by Shreemathiby on that day.


Inspector Jagadish, PSI CCB Kabbal Raj , ACP Hegde and staff members of CCB, Crime, Pandeshwar, Kankanady and central sub-division were the team involved in solving crime.
