Shramadan 28th of the 40 Weeks’ Swacchata Abhiyan by RK Mission achieved

Mangaluru, Apr 30, 2018: Week 28 of Shramadan by Ramakrishna Mission Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was carried out in  Mannagudda. Retired Bank official Ravindranath Nayak and Praveen Shetty jointly flagged off the Shramadan near Mahatma Gandhi Park  April 29, Sunday.

Swami Jitakamanandaji, President of Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore, Ramkumar Bekal, Dr Dhanesh Kumar, Ranjan B U, Dilraj Alva and several others were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Sri Praveen Shetty said, “Cleanliness should become our first preference. We should not only become aware about this but also create awareness in others. The habit of  littering in public places should be checked. I am glad so many volunteers are doing this in many places at Mangalore. Sri Ravindranath Nayak said, “Ramakrishna Mission Swacchata Abhiyan has become successful because of the active participation of the public. We can clearly see the resultant mass movement and awareness among the common public in this regard. It gives hope to note that youngsters are participating in large numbers. “

Cleanliness Drive: Volunteers were divided in to 5 groups. Sadashiv Kamath & Team members of  Art of Living cleaned one side of the road from Gandhi Park towards Mannagudda Gurji while another side was cleaned by the members of Nivedita Balaga. Students of NItte College of Physiotherapy under guidance of Sowmya Srivatsa cleaned the roads leading towards Urwa market and cleaned the drains surrounding the compound wall of Gandhi Park and removed heaps of garbage. Smt Vasanthi Nayak & devotees of Ramakrishna Math cleaned the road in front of Gandhi Park.

Removal of garbage: Several blackspots prone to littering by the public are being developed into small gardens or parks in several parts of Mangalore. Today Shubhoday Alva,  Mohammad Shameem along with nearly 50 volunteers removed huge heaps of garbage from a spot in Mathadkani Road. Members of Sea-Side Rotary Club with Florik Lobo & Suresh M S actively  participated in the drive. Mathadakani road was cleaned by Dr Radhakrishna K,  other volunteers.  The spot was levelled using JCB and several decorative flower pots were kept in the spot.

Distribution of Awareness Literature: Students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy under Priya visited several households and shop in Mannagudda, Mathadakani Road and distributed handbills on awareness. They also distributed handbills to public visiting Gandhi park and urged them to keep the area clean. Sri Suresh Shetty guided the volunteers.  Repainting of Direction Boards: Direction Boards at Gundurao Lane, Gandhinagar 3 rd and 4 th Cross, Sanghaniketan Road, Urwa Market road were worn out and were not serving the purpose. They were  thoroughly cleaned using water and painted yellow in the last 2 days.  Names were painted on  the boards giving them a facelift.

Rajendra Kalbavi, Kudroli Ganesh, Prof. Tara Rao, Jayakrishna Bekal and many others took part in the cleanliness drive.   MRPL and Nitte Institutions are sponsoring the drive.
