Shivapura Govt school teacher arrested for sexual harassment of student

Karkala, July 31, 2014: A case of alleged sexual harassment of a high school girl, by  a maths teacher has been reported  from Karkala.  The teacher Venkatramana Kalkura  of the Shivapura Government High School has been arrested by the Hebri police on July 31, Thursday following a complaint by the girl.

The incident is learnt to have taken place about six months ago. Though the girl had brought the matter to the notice of Hindi Teacher Prabhavathi she along with the Gram Panchaayat President Suresh Shetty had reportedly threatened the girl of dire consequences if she revealed the matter before her parents.

Sources said the girl who was a nervous wreck had revealed the matter to her parents only on July 30 following which a complaint was lodged. Even Prabhavathi and Suresh have been taken into custody for questioning.
