Shirlalu Adinathaswamy Basadi burgled ; Panchaloha idols worth lakhs stolen

Karkala, Feb 22, 2016:  The historic Shree Adinathaswamy Basadi at Shirlalu  has been burgled  during the wee hours of February 21, Sunday and Panchaloha idols worth several lakhs of rupees have been stolen. Even gold and silver ornaments that adorned the idols are missing from the Basadi.

 The idols of Lord Bahubali, Goddess Padmavathi and the presiding deity Lord Adinatha Swamy and Bharatha ,gold chains, silver aureole and other pooja items are among the  missing  valuables. The  thieves had gained entry by breaking open the doors of the sanctum sanctorum of the  Basadi.

The Chief Priest Srikanth Indra who had arrived as usual on Sunday morning was shocked  to see the doors open and the window grill broken.

The police rushed to the spot and canine squad and finger print experts too were summoned. It has been learnt that the  thieves were wearing shoes while entering the Basadi. Locals even say several pet dogs of nearby residents had died  in the past few days giving rise to suspicion that this was the handiwork of thieves.

Ajekar Police have registered a case.
