Tejaswini said women were pushed in to their homes earlier. But today, they have abundant opportunities and can decide to either stay back at home or pursue a career. This is the edge that women have over men who have no choice, but to earn a living for the family, she observed.

She gave a clarion call to women to shed inhibitions, consider themselves strong and nurture a positive outlook as there are a plenty of opportunities available.

Tejaswini quoted her experience about being gritty in facing challenges. Adamya Chetana Foundation is provididng midday meals to more than 1,000 schools, besides adopting eco-friendly technology to tap renewable sources of energy, she said.

Ramakrishna Mutt president Swami Jithakamandaji said the programme aims to kindle the spirit of women to empower them. Sister Nivedita, who came down to India from Ireland to serve the needy following the call of Swami Vivekananda in 1898, was remembered for her immense courage and contribution, he added.

Jithakamandaji said Sister Nivedita has been instrumental in educating women in India besides taking up the cause of health during plague.
