Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara Temple organizes village sports event

Moodbidri, Feb 12:  Shri Bhootanatheshwara Kreedotsava, a village games’ festival, which is being jointly organized by the Bhoothanatheshwara Bhajana Mandali of Badaga Yedapadavu in Mijar and Shasthavu Bhootanatheshwara Temple was inaugurated on Feb 12, Saturday in the presence of dignitaries such as MP D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Shri Mijarguthu Anand Alva, and Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr. Mohan Alva.

A series of village sports events such as Hunting Treasure in Mud, Tug of War, Shelling Coconuts with Teeth, Rice Mudi Making, Frog Jumping, Filling Water in Vessels, and others formed part of this unique event. A talent show and a fancy dress contest have also been arranged for the entertainment of the audience.

The purpose of organizing a village sports event is to rejuvenate traditional games and sports of Tulunad, which incorporates DK, Udupi, and Kasargod. Although the event is organized by a temple, people of all communities, castes, and religions have been invited to participate. The organizers hope to give a boost to the rural community life. Premnath Shetty, the physical director of Swami Vivekananda College of Yedapadav, is supervising the event.

The Kreedotsava includes a total of 21 events in which 1,300 contestants will be participating. It will conclude with a splendid dance performance by the famous Bharat Natyam artiste and actress Padma Shri Shobhana and troupe on Feb 13, Sunday, from 6:00 p.m.
