Sharp spike in Covid cases: All ICU, Ventilator beds occupied in DK, Udupi

Mangaluru, September 6, 2020: With a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases in Dakshina Kannada district, all  Ventilator and ICU beds  are occupied here too as in Udupi district and general patients requiring ICU treatment are in for great hardship.

There are  30 beds and an equal number of ventilators in Government Wenlock Hospital ICU. Presently, a   Hi-Dependency Unit has been opened with 15 ventilator beds apart from  380 hi-oxygen beds at Wenlock.

 There are  120 ICU beds, 117 ventilator beds and 611 hi-oxygen beds in  total in Wenlock and the 9 private hospitals  where Covid-19 patients are admitted and all these are presently full.

District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi has requested people to get themselves tested soon and not to wait till the last minute given the present circumstances where all ICU and ventilator beds are full.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V has said  103 ventilators have been provided by the  Government and a few are being used while the rest will be distributed to  taluk level hospitals. He also said  critical patients who need ICU treatment and those facing any issue in admission to hospital should immediately contact  the DC office helpline -1077.
