
Udupi, Mar 08, 2021: The POCSO Fast Track Court of the Udupi District Additional and Sessions Court has sentenced a person named Chandra K Hemmady to 10 years of imprisonment in connection with the first of the 21 POCSO cases registered against him for sexually abusing minor boys.

Chandra who had posed himself as a journalist had visited a rural area of Byndoor and had lured a minor to come along with him to snap photographs of birds and animals and  the school building and had then  sexually abused the boy.  Following a complaint lodged at Byndoor station, the man was arrested in November 2018 and a case was  registered under POCSO.
Later several such acts of his came to light when the parents of the victims  came forward to lodge police complaints. Subsequently,  a total of 21 cases were registered in Byndoor, Kollur and other places.
In the first case in which the accused was convicted, the  court had heard a total of 15 witnesses including  the victim  out of the total 36 witnesses named.
In the  judgement that has come out today the convict has also been imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 of which Rs 5,000 has to be given to the victim.
