Sewage enters apartment at Kadri

Mangaluru, Nov 18, 2017: Residents of more than 20 flats in Vista Apartment in Kadri-Mallikatta here had a harrowing experience on Nov 17,  Friday as sewage from the Mangaluru City Corporation’s sewage network entered the parking area.

According to a local activist, sewage also entered the underground drinking water sump of the apartment polluting it.

As water stood at 2 to 3 feet, in the parking area many people in the apartment could not come out. Power supply to the apartment had to be disconnected as a precautionary measure. sewage also spread to the premises of the nearby buildings.

The MCC officials were carrying out underground drainage work on the main Nanthoor Junction-Mallikatta Road near in front of a  food outlet by blocking the drainage line.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Nazir, MCC commissioner, said in a statement  on Nov 17, Friday that the corporation has taken up repair of the network laid during 1970s in some parts of the city. It was repairing manholes and underground pipelines damaged. It was causing inconvenience to people. Hence people would have to cooperate with the MCC.

Due to damage to the network, sewage was flowing on the roads,  ongoing works have also affected traffic in some parts of the city. The corporation was completing the works on priority, he said.
