Udupi, Dec 8, 2015 : Tension had prevailed at Kalattur-Punchalkadu area in Shirva police station limits on December 6, Sunday night following several incidents of assault wherein four persons were injured.
The injured namely Ashok Acharya (25), Rajesh Kulal (29), Kishore Kulal (24) and Dinesh Devadiga (28), all residents of the same area have been hospitalised.
A complaint lodged by Ashok said he was attacked by some youth who were in a car just because Ashok objected to their over speeding vehicle while he was speaking over mobile phone near the local bus stop.
It is said the attackers later entered a bar where they were attacked by another group including Kishore, Rajesh and Dinesh who were summoned by Ashok.
Yet another complaint lodged by Dinesh stated that four persons including one Assi alias Haneef who arrived by two bikes attacked him near Chandranagar.
Rajesh Kulal, in his complaint stated that six persons including Dawood and Haneef who came by three bikes have attacked him near the local autorickshaw stand.
SP Annamalai has visited the Udupi Government Hospital where the injured are receiving treatment.
The incidents of assault sparked tension in the area with large number of people gathering at Majoor, Punchalkadu, Kalattur and other places.
Police have stepped up security to avert any untoward incident. Several leaders have demanded the arrest of the assaulters at the earliest.
