Mangaluru, Jan 03, 2015: Karnataka State Safai Karmacharis Commission President Narayana has informed that the officials of local administrative bodies have been instructed to take suitable remedial measures within 15 days to ensure that the municipal workers working under contract basis in local bodies in the district are not cheated by the contactors with regard to the ESI and PF facilities. He said it has come to his notice that the contract workers were being cheated.
Speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with officials of various departments at the DC office in the city on January 2, Friday. He said it has come to the Commission’s notice that just 12 municipal workers were handling the works of 35 municipal workers in Mulki, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady and Moodbidri. The workers were even reportedly cheated as far as ESI, PF facilities are concerned, he said and added the local administrative officials have been asked to look into the matter within 15 days failing which legal action would follow against the officials as well as the contractors.
He also informed that as per the court orders the process of regularising the services of as many as 35000 municipal workers working on contact basis across the state including Mangaluru City Corporation would commence within the next six months.
He also stated that the police have been asked to register suo moto complaints if they have any suspicion that labourers are made to manually clean manholes and sceptic tanks.
