serial killer Cyanide Mohan Kumar gets death sentenceMangalore, Dec 21, 2013: In a significant judgement, the Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court has on December 21, Saturday sentenced serial killer Cyanide Mohan Kumar to death. Mohan  was convicted in three of the 20 murder cases he is facing, earlier this week.

Mohan was sentenced to death under IPC Section 302 for murder apart from imposing a penalty of Rs 5000. The Court has also sentenced  him to  five years imprisonment and another fine of Rs 5000 for kidnapping, eight years imprisonment and Rs 5000 fine for rape and  three years jail and fine of Rs 1000 under section 328 for administering poison to his victims. Of all the punishment, the maximum, that is death penalty  will be imposed  under Section 302 of the IPC.

Mohan was recently convicted in the Barimar Anitha, Vamadapadavu Leelavathi and Peruvaje Sunanda murder cases.

It has been gathered that the convict Mohan Kumar will be challenging the district court ruling in the High Court.

 

It may be recalled that Mohan Kumar was arrested on October 21, 2009 after the police intensified investigation into the case of the mysterious missing of Anitha on June 17 that year.

The investigation led them to the arrest of Mohan when the murders of 21 young women which he had executed  by  cleverly giving them cyanide pills after making them believe it to be contraceptive pills, stood exposed.

What was more shocking was to know that this serial killer who hailed from Kanyana in Bantwal taluk had served as a temporary teacher in a primary school at Angadi  in Kanyana  from 1980 to 2003. It is learnt, he later took to the heinous task of luring young women and then killing them after promising marriage.

The trial in the murder cases had commenced in the then fast track court in November 2011 and later shifted to the Fourth Additional and District Sessions Court.
