September 9 bundh less likely to get support in coastal districts

Belthangady, Sep 8,2016:  :  The bundh call given by various pro-Kannada organisations and farmers associations on September 9, in protest against the Supreme Court verdict on Cauvery and to oppose the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, is  less likely to have any impact in Dakshina Kannada district.

It has to be mentioned here that the state government has virtually turned a deaf ear  to the pleas of the people of the coastal district to drop the controversial Yettinahole project and has instead directed for measures to expedite the project. This has naturally led to anguish in this part of the region.

Niranjan Rai Uppinangadi, a Netravathi activist says though people here have concern towards the problems of the people living alongside the Cauvery river basin area,    people of the district too have a similar demand  regarding a river water."Therefore, it would be best f the people here d not support the bundh," he observes.

Former Mangalore deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapur, former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty and  KN Somashekhar are among those who have been fighting for the cause of Netravathi and say they will not support the Bundh against release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

It may be recalled here that senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary has already demanded the resignation of Water Resources Minister MB Patil for failing to effectively handle the Yettinahole and Cauvery disputes.
