Mangaluru, June 20, 2018:  KSRTC buses operating from Mangaluru will have GPS-based system to announce the names of all bus stops on the routes. This facility will be introduced soon.

KSRTC busesThe Mangaluru depot of KSRTC is all set to introduce ’GPS Based Next Stop Announcement System’ in all the buses to alert passengers just like Metro services.

The system, which will be made active in 100 KSRTC buses of Mangaluru depot in the first phase, will be different from the service introduced in Bengaluru and Mysuru. The GPS-based Next Stop Announcement System will track the bus stops enroute based on the latitude and longitude of the location. Mangaluru depot has already introduced the system in 10 buses on Mangaluru-Kasaragod route on a pilot basis through an outsourced agency that will maintain it with the advertisement revenue. Very soon, the next stop announcement system will be introduced in 100 buses that operate from Mangaluru depot, said M B Jaishanth Kumar, divisional traffic officer of KSRTC.

"For the first time, a GPS based next stop announcement system is being introduced in KSRTC. We have introduced the system on 10 buses plying on Mangaluru-Kasaragod route on pilot basis. The system is working successfully on the route. The GPS instrument attached to the system will read the latitude and longitude of the location and make announcement seconds before the bus reaches a bus stop. A proposal to introduce the system in 100 buses has been approved by the government. The proposal was pending since the election code of conduct was in force. The system introduced in buses of Bengaluru and Mangaluru are different from ours. Buses in Mangaluru will also play music and it will have automatic volume control. The volume of the music will increase automatically when the speed of the bus increases," he said. But, public are wondering how long and how well it will be maintained.
