Belthangady, Jan 27, 2015 : In what can be described as a path-breaking event, several progressive minded seers partook lunch prepared by Dalits at a house at the Kellakere Dalit colony at Melanthabettu in Belthangady on Republic Day.
The programme was organised by the Dalit Rights Action Committee. Sri Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swamiji of Nidumamidi Samsthan Mutt was prominent among the seers who participated in this Saha-Bhojan at Dalit Colony.
In his address, the seer stressed the need for the society’s mind-set about Dalits. He said exploitation of Dalits has been going on since ages and that it cannot stop immediately. Great efforts are needed to put an end to the evil practice, he added.
SY Gurushanth, State Co-Convenor of the Tribal Rights Co-ordination Committee, Athradi Amritha Shetty, writer, Sri Jnanaprakasha Swamiji of Shivayogishwar Mutt, Mysore, Sri Basavanagideva Sharanaru of Chitradurga Chalavadi Mahasamsthan, Basavalingamurthi Sharana Swamiji of Mysore and Sri Okkaliga Muddanna Swamiji of Tumkur Huliyuru Darga Vishwa Manava Mantap were the seers who partook lunch prepared by Dalits.
Rahul Kumar, ASP of Bantwal, Admar Sripathi Acharya, writer, Vasanth Achari, CPI(M) leader, Vanitha Shetty, lecturer and Krishnappa Konchadi, District Convenor of Dalit Rights Action Committee were also present.
